Travel Tales from Mridula

How to Reach Chandratal Lake

I did a trip to Lahaul and Spiti in August 2015 . When I posted some pictures of Chandratal Lake, people asked me how to go there, was there a resort nearby, etc. In this post I try to answer some questions related to How to reach Chandratal Lake? This is when I assume you are not driving your own vehicle.

Hire a Tata Sumo

The nearest large town near Chandratal is Manali. The easiest but the most costly way to reach is to hire a Tata Sumo from Manali and reach Chandratal. The distance between the two [...]

The Compulsive Confessor

Without you, one night alone, is like a year without you baby

Addictions. We all have some small demons we have to fight. In my case, my demons are socially sanctioned- sort of. Cigarette aren't illegal (yet) and I didn't even know I had another addiction until last week.
What happened last week? Well, regular readers of this column may know I have three cats. They're all under two years old, and still fairly kittenish. One of their favourite pastimes, in fact, is playing follow-my-leader boisterouly, with no regard for the things they are jumping over. One [...]

The Urge to Wander

DSC_1801 copy

The avant garde metal and glass interior of the Fernando Zobel train station was the last thing we expected when we disembarked after our 45 min. high speed train journey from Madrid. A nagging feeling that we had inadvertently got off at the wrong station persisted as we climbed into the lone taxi out front and sped […]

Mysterious power

How naive / innocent a devotee is, when he feels that it is his duty to visit a place of worship. Where in fact, it is will of - The Man - sitting upstairs to draw a devotee close to him or to keep him away. Visiting the temple close to my heart - Dharmasthala. Missed it for a very long time.... PS: "There is an indefinable mysterious power that pervades everything, I feel it though I do

Jakkur Lake, Bangalore

The Jakkur Lake in Bangalore is in the north-eastern part of the city. Today, it is one of the largest and cleanest water bodies in the city.
This would not have been possible without the initiative taken by the people who took keen interest in developing it into a beautiful and scenic place. This 160 acre lake allows for limited fishing activities and is frequented by various birds.
Among other birds the pelicans and painted stork throng this lake as they come here for nesting. As a result this park [...]

Ananya Tales

Dress it in your style

Whether you prefer to call it a vanity, chest of drawers, or simply a place to style up—the dressing table is a time-honoured, classic piece of bedroom furniture that no self-respecting boudoir can possibly do without. Since I have been writing so many tips on clothing, styling and fashion, I thought it’s about time to give you some tips on how to elegantly display that new long skirt, or that precious saree you just bought last weekend.

While stumbling upon ideas for wardrobe and dressing table styles, [...]

Ranthambhore diary

Mismanagement, corruption and resulting crowd menace at Ranthambhore is increasing every year. It is no more a place where you can watch a tiger walking the forest in peace.  After every visit, I said to myself that this is going to be the last time. But the tigers of Ranthambhore keep bringing me back. We had a sighting of T19’s cubs last year when they were just 3 months old. They were barely larger than a house cat last June (2014). Now they are sub adult cubs of one and half year. And they were treating [...]
