Travel Tales from Mridula

Le Meridien, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

I stayed only for one night at Le Meridien Kota Kinalabu in the Sabah region of Malaysia, whereas I would have liked to stay more. The hotel is an old one, but it went through a renovation process recently. Here is an account of my extremely short stay with them.

Check-In

The Newly Renovated Lobby with the Sea Theme

The check in at the hotel was smooth. They asked for my passport and gave me my room key. We were checking in the evening and there was hardly any queue. The lobby was buzzing though. [...]

Patalpuri Gurudwara in Kiratpur Sahib, Punjab

Built on the banks of Sutlej river and the foothills of Shivalik range is the beautiful and historic Gurudwara of Patalpuri in Kiratpur Sahib, a small religious town in the Ropar (or Roopnagar) district of Punjab.
Patalpuri Gurudwara, Kiratpur
Kiratpur was established by the 6th Sikh Guru Hargobind Singh. Another famous Gurudwara nearby is Anandpur Sahib or Keshgarh Sahib , 10 km away (considered as the second most important place for the Sikhs as it is the birthplace of the Khalsa).
The Darbar [...]

Jakkur Lake, Bangalore

The Jakkur Lake in  Bangalore  is in the north-eastern part of the city. Today, it is one of the largest and cleanest water bodies in the city.
This would not have been possible without the initiative taken by the people who took keen interest in developing it into a beautiful and scenic place. This 160 acre lake allows for limited fishing activities and is frequented by various birds.
Among other birds the pelicans and painted stork throng this lake as they come here for nesting. As [...]

Heritage Houses of Goa - Menezes Braganza Pereira House

Goa is home to some extremely old Heritage Portuguese Houses and many of these have existed for there  for  the last four centuries. These houses started getting built soon after the conquest of Goa by the Portuguese in the early 16th Century and continued almost till the time they left in 1961. Over the  years many pf these have disappeared while only a few have endured the test of times and live on to tell their tale to the world. One such house is the  Braganza Pereira House located [...]

Moving on... from Dharamsala to Amritsar to Rishikesh

Amritsar wasn’t on the original itinerary for our #SummerTrip. The city was added to our plan simply because we were delayed in booking Shankar’s return flight, and the only convenient one available was from Amritsar! It was then that realization dawned – that Shankar had never visited the Golden Temple! Plans were at once re-modified, tickets booked, and I began to look forward to my third visit to the city!
Somewhere on the way to Amritsar...

Praying...

Samyak (www.samyakkaninde.com) posted a photo:

This nymph of a stick mantis was all lost in the grass below where I was not even looking. The only time it caught my attention was when it came on this rock and I realised some movement on the contrasting background. Closely inspecting, there was this little fella all too bold and beautiful striking poses after each step it took.

The state of compassion

Posted in Notes

Islamic State. European state. Indian state.

One denies human existence on the basis of religion, and the other does the same using their borders while the third does so because their race/caste/tribe is different. And it is always the little ones who fall victims.

Aylan Kurdi, the little boy who washed ashore on the Turkey coast. Then the three infants of twenty seven years old tribal woman Anitha in Kerala. Her three infants died at birth because she was denied admission in the [...]

Roman Aqueduct of Merida, Spain

Roman aqueducts of yesteryears were lifelines of their civilization then. The Los Milagros aqueduct functioned as water supply lines to the settlements around - Augusta Emerita, which was the capital of Roman Lusitania, modern Merida. Daughters of Tomorrow

Hmm

Having a partner who speaks 6 other languages (None of which I speak) apart from English means that I get to hear a lot of songs I would have never heard otherwise.

Today I have a test and I haven’t studied anything. I am going for the probability..ie..if I pick B for all the questions I don’t know the answer to, chances are that I get 1 in 4 right. ( I think we can safely assume that my GPA is heading south)

Instead of studying, I am listening to this song..

Striped Dress

I read somewhere Vertical Stripes create a illusion of adding height to your frame and Horizontal stripes add width. I don't really want to add any width but for sure like wearing horizontal stripes. A Striped dress is the easiest way to try color blocking.
This green striped dress has been one of my best buys. I have styled it with the gorgeous gem studded necklace which I received from Happiness Boutique few weeks ago. This is one stunning piece of jewelry that can instantly glam up any simple outfit. [...]
