Tiruchendur Murugan Temple: Sea Shore Magic

Built on a sandstone cliff and by the Bay of Bengal, the Tiruchendur Murugan temple is the only of the 6 holy places of worship for Lord Murugan that is not located on top of a mountain or in forests. This is one of those temples that has a number of unique attributes. It is a temple that was untouched by the 2004 tsunami that struck terror in coastal Tamil Nadu. And that too when it is just 50 metres from the sea and when damage occurred at other locations. I have a personal history with this temple as it [...]

The Monk’s Bunk budget hostel, Kaunas

I’ve stayed in about 4 hostels in 4 different European cities so far. The Monk’s Bunk in Kaunas, Lithuania has been the best overall experience so far. Monk’s Bunk is located at the heart of Kaunas city, has lots of open space, a decent size locker which can take a normal backpack, decent kitchen, living room and 2 bathrooms. By the Taj Mahal: Stunning Shot #SelfieByNight

Imagine this scenario: A full moon has just risen in the night sky. Suspended somewhere beneath this magical moonlight, in the bountiful cup of the shadowy night, is the timeless Taj, gleaming in hues of white and silver overlooking the silently twinkling Yamuna River. You stand there, in sheer awe of the moody landscape around you, totally captivated by the beauty of the pristine silence, the magical play of colours that engulfs your entire being. If there is any such thing as paradise, this is it - you hear [...]

Exotic Wooden Doors from a Gujarati village

Doors have always fascinated me, and they are even more special whenever I see them in a small village. Here is a photo story of some of the lovely old wooden doors that I saw in a small village near Mehsana in Gujarat.
It was a sizzling hot afternoon and there was barely anyone in the village. As I walked across the village with my camera, the kids got interested in me and followed me wherever I went. When they saw that I was more interested in the doors than in them, they started photo-bombing every [...]

Daughters of Tomorrow

You did well !

That was a comment my cousin made few weeks ago and after reading the post today you will know why that particular comment meant a lot to me.

My cousin was the person who annoyed me the most by constantly reminding me of the importance of family and forgiveness. How I should remember the sacrifices made by my mother and be grateful. She always made me feel like a horrible, ungrateful wretch.

When she was here few weeks ago, my kids were in the kitchen cooking. Each of them sharing the cooking duties [...]

And to justify my crazy love there are so many variety of leopard prints how can I stop.

To Market, to market- Stanley Market

Ladies market, night market, flower market, cloths market and so on. I have heard markets called by many names but Stanley is not one of them! It is so incongruous, at least to me, but then there it was.

Before heading for Hong Kong we had made a list of street markets to visit. Most were not far from each other in Kowloon, but Stanley was the odd man out. Our plan was, if we have some spare time we will visit this place. However the intrigue of the name was so much that it was almost the very first market [...]

Travel of knowledge

As we made our way to outskirts of Davangere - there was plenty of activity to be seen in farming fields. Onset of monsoon was keeping the farmers and their bullocks busy in fields. Mother earth was ripe and farmers were sowing seeds for the next crop. Sons of soil were carrying out important work. Ripened earth during monsoon Day's destination was a nearby rural school where this

In a polio vaccination camp - 1996

As NCC cadets in our high school(Anubhava Mantapa/Taralabalu), we had to do service in a polio vaccination camp. Unaware of what was in store in this service, we (me and a friend close to our house) made it to Davangere Governement Hospital aka Old Hospital. As the name of hospital suggests, it is in old part of Davangere. At the venue, there were NCC cadets from many schools.      The

AirAsia direct connection from Bengaluru to Bangkok

I just discovered: AirAsia now connects Bengaluru directly with Bangkok, starting September 1st, 2015. This would make it convenient for Bangaloreans travelling to several locations in South East Asia.

This morning, I was looking up for air tickets to a few destinations in South-East Asia on AirAsia website. At one point, I was searching for Air Tickets out of Mandalay, Myanmar to Bangkok. In the list of destinations that AirAsia tickets can be booked out of Mandalay, Bengaluru also popped up to my [...]
