Life of a Bedouin in Jordan - A story of Dreams

The word Bedouin comes from the Arabic word Bedu and literally means ‘people who live in the deserts’. Bedouins are found all the way from the north of Africa to the Middle East and the one thing that connects them is the fact that they live in the deserts and rear camels and mules. However, with time many have now moved to the cities and don’t identify themselves as a typical bedouin, though a large number of them continue to dwell in the deserts, especially in Jordan .

By the time I finished talking [...]

Travel at Bhushavali

Briding at Puliyankudi!

Well, technically, I went to Puliyankudi for the temple. But while my friends ventured the temple, I was out at the pond and the paddy fields around shooting the birds, with my 55-250 lens!!! Here are some pics...

The grandiose Bald Eagle!
A little channel!
The paddy fields padded with common egrets...
... up closer...
... still up closer!!
White Cattle Egret in Flight!
And what else I caught in flight? An Air India Aircraft!!! Lolz!!!

Just a mother of two

Father's name and Husband's name

My mom is visiting me these days. I took her for a master health check up yesterday.
We had to fill up the hospital forms and I was filling it up for her.
There was a column for 'Father's/Husband's name.'
I found it meaningless to fill that in as neither her husband nor her father are even alive. How did it matter?
I didn't tell her anything though. The pain of losing my dad still opens up raw wounds inside me.
'What should I write? Father's name or husband's name?' I asked her. [...]

Is Jordan safe for travel? Here is the answer!

Is Jordan safe for travel?
Located in the Middle East and sharing borders with Israel, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, Jordan has been popular with tourists for a long time. But to many, especially in India and the West, safety remains a concern. I was in Jordan for over a week and spent my days travelling across the length and breadth of the country, and never for even one moment felt unsafe. Here is an account of my own personal experiences in Jordan.
...........
It was just my first day in Jordan [...]

Jordan: The Oasis of Calm in the Middle East

The Dead Sea, Jordan

Over the past few years, I have been to the Middle East a few times covering Dubai, Oman, Turkey, Israel and Jordan. Given a choice to go back to only one of these in the future, I would pick Jordan.

I have been to the country twice – in 2010 and recently in 2015, both times invited by the Jordan Tourism Board . While the agenda was to produce content to boost tourism, I could not help being impacted in more ways than one. Here is how:

1. A country at peace: Jordan [...]

What three years of Himalayan trekking has taught me

Travel, they say, teaches more than you could ever learn in school. I would say trekking — especially of the multi-day Himalayan kind — teaches you more than you could ever learn from ‘ordinary’ travel. This post is an attempt to share what I have learned during my brief career as a Himalayan trekker, not it may not exactly be an exhaustive list.

1.       The value of teamwork

If I learned one thing from my latest trek in Kashmir — Tarsar-Marsar — it’s the [...]

Backpacking Venice:Italy

You can’t go wrong with patience in Venice, because that’s all you need - lots and lots of it.Everywhere I can see I can see water.Yes I have been to locations with splendid sea but not on locations that survives on vaporetto(water bus) 24 * 7 on the seemingly endless lagoon with islands.Getting used to the view that we seldom see everyday lost in the narrow alleyways(calli),squares(campi) and quarters(sestieri) of Venice,it is surprise reloaded and one of the most intriguing cities I have ever been to.This [...]

Floral Pants

Floral pants are stylish, comfortable and fun. For my last trip I wore these blue and white floral pants. Since the floral pants were so bright and colorful I chose to pair it with a black crop top. These floral pants are so comfortable and breezy.
The black crop top has beautiful rose detailing and its such a versatile piece. I have paired it with a skirt for evening look and worn it with casual pants. The floral pants has a bright blue shade to it and so I wore a simple blue beaded necklace from my own [...]
